Celebrating Strength and Advocating for Inclusion in Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month

Cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of neurological disorders that affect movement, muscle tone, and posture. It results from damage to the developing brain, often occurring before, during, or shortly after birth. CP is a lifelong condition, but with the right care and support, individuals with CP can lead meaningful lives.

The causes of cerebral palsy vary and may include factors like premature birth, complications during delivery, infections during pregnancy, or severe jaundice in newborns. Early and proper prenatal care, timely treatment of infections, and improved birthing practices are critical in preventing some cases of CP.

At CODISA, we remain committed to raising awareness and providing support to individuals and families affected by CP. By working together, we can break barriers, promote inclusion, and create a world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

We recognize the importance of supporting individuals with cerebral palsy (CP) and their families, ensuring they live fulfilling and dignified lives. Cerebral Palsy Center (CpCenter), a pioneering parent-led NGO established in 2010, has been at the forefront of this mission. Inspired by the founder's personal experience as a parent of a child with CP, the center began as a specialized day care facility, providing families with much-needed respite and specialized care. Over the years, it has grown into a beacon of hope, offering boarding facilities, therapies, and a purpose-built site in Lagos—all at no cost to the families it serves.

The impact of CpCenter's work is immeasurable. From enabling parents to pursue careers and economic stability to improving the quality of life for over 300 families, the center has truly transformed lives. The organization's approach emphasizes inclusivity and empowerment, allowing families from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds to access top-quality services. Its unwavering commitment to this cause has earned it profound respect within the community.

CODISA has been a steadfast ally to CpCenter since 2012, providing invaluable support through donations, scholarships, and resources. From funding medication to facilitating education for CP individuals, CODISA's efforts continue to uplift the center and inspire meaningful change.

As we look ahead, let us remain committed to advocating for better support systems, raising awareness about cerebral palsy, and championing the spirit of resilience that defines so many individuals and families. Together, we can break barriers and foster an environment of inclusion and understanding.
